Mesothelioma and Non Asbestos Exposure Most commonly, mesothelioma develops on the linings of the lungs and abdomen. This rare cancer also can form in the heart's lining (pericardium) or testes. Asbestos exposure is a major risk factor for mesothelioma. Certain mesothelioma patients do not have any history of asbestos exposure.
